Şive Neşe Baydar’s exhibition Light Words generally focuses on topics such as borders, thresholds, calls, sensitivity, frequency, and language. However, she specializes her focus with themes such as light, color, shadow, trace, and reflection. First of all, she questions what nature, the given, and the everyday have to offer. Without going too far, she tries to show the nests of our apathy towards what is happening right under our noses. Whether those nests are carefully or carelessly hidden, they eventually become the source of seeing. Not being able to see increases the power of those who draw boundaries, while seeing increases the courage of those who create boundaries. In the words of Ömer Seyfettin, the expression “there were thousands of spectra living their eternal legends” becomes true in Baydar’s painting. While each spectra heads towards another hidden nest, each of Baydar’s works highlights the common fate of these spectra.
